Kite Flying

I was excited last week to spot a rare bird for the Bismarck area or at least one I have not noticed before (if you have, please comment). On the corner of my father's property (just off of HWY 128) in the top of a dead Sycamore I spotted, not one, but three Mississippi Kites (Ictinia mississippiensis). These crow size, hawk-like birds are often seen in flocks when feeding along the Gulf Coast. What a nice looking bird!
