Rare Hummingbird

While a black-chinned hummingbird (Archilochus alexandri) is nothing unusual for the southwestern and western U.S., it is rare for Arkansas. I don't know what this one was doing in my backyard, but I was glad he stopped by for a visit.

Hungry Hummingbirds

In my backyard the Hummingbirds made their arrival in early April. These pictures were taken April 10th to be exact. Who doesn't enjoy the sights, sounds, and antics of these pint-sized, acrobats? The constant squeaks of dueling males over my feeder is always cause to stare. Pound for pound, I don't know of a more aggressive bird. Here are some pics of our normal ruby-throated humming bird (Archilochus colubris).
